I saw a man sitting on the corner by the steps.
He was looking real rough, out of work I guess.
His shoe was untied and his shirt was torn.
I asked him, "How ya doing?" and he said with scorn –

I’m A-O, A-OK! A-O, A-OK!

I saw a woman pushing a little baby buggy.
She was carrying another and he was really hugging.
Still another followed behind her, he was crying.
She looked at me strange, I asked her, "What’s jivin’?"

She said, "I’m A-O, A-OK! A-O, A-OK!"

Well it’s hard to believe there are people like this,
life is cold and harsh everywhere I guess.
One minute you’re up, the next you’re down.
Enjoy it while you got it – your turn will come around.

I read about a man and his name was Hughes.
His money was his honey, he had beaucoups.
Isn’t it funny, he died of neglect.
Destiny has equal opportunity respect.
