When I first heard this I wasn't sure what to think.  Sometimes I get CD's and I'm burned out after a few listens, but this one wouldn't let go.  I listened to it a few times, then discovered how good it was.  Captivating.  It made me listen.  In it's own world, sort of, but very intelligent; worth listening to and not just hearing it in the background.  Musical environment was superb.  Voices were sexy and luscious; the kind of sound perfect for a romantic evening that could last an entire night.  I'd recommend this to anyone who likes music that really means something.

Funny how people spend too much time hunting for good sounds by Indies, but CD's like this make it all worthwhile.  I  haven't heard anything like this in years.  I sat outside recently, enjoying a calm moment while listening, and it gave me a whole new ambience.  Gave me a feeling of comfort and looseness.  At times it was almost too deep.  It's moodiness seemed to relate an ironic, bittersweet happiness.  And if that lush music was any smoother I could spread it on my bread.  Great CD.  I look forward to more.

Normally, this style of music isn't my 'cup of tea', but I couldn't take it out of my CD player.  It was haunting.  I kept going back, listening closely, trying to figure out what it was that so captured my imagination.  The melodies, the vocals, the music - it was a combination of velvet play and introspection that created not just a style, but an entire world of it's own.  Bands just don't play like this any more.  And I truly wish they did.

This band is out of this world.  Their music goes straight to my soul.  I don't understand where they have been all this time.  Surely someone in the music industry must listen to this music and sign them to a contract.  What a coup that would be.  I have only the highest praise for their music, and consider myself extremely lucky to have had the chance to hear them.  I hope everyone will have a chance to hear them.

This CD is Magellan's best to date.  The musicianship and vocal qualities are top notch; the songwriting is superb; the instrumentals are a wonderful augmentation to the lyrical compositions.  From the beginning to end, creates the mood of an ethereal twilight.  Comparable to any big name band of the same musical style.  Excellent.  Even gives Pink Floyd a run for their money.

The opening track is 'Sound Is Your Dream', great track which starts with quite a lot of sound effects before going into a mellow song. The vocals are soft and dreamy and the guitar sound is distorted.  Reminds me a bit of early Pink Floyd... Track three is 'If Only I Could', is an excellent track and a song very much in the vein of John Lennon, the type of music he was playing before his death...   'Yes Mildred (There Was Life On Mars)' is a superb instrumental with some great distorted guitar...  The tracks on this album have a kind of Alan Parson feel to them and Magellan cover a range of song styles, blues, ballads, rock'n'roll, progressive rock with a 70's feel to them. I really like this album aand it comes highly recommended. (for a complete review of all songs, see the site).

Well, I have one word... Eclectic. On an overall basis, I'd describe this as a soft rock album with a late seventies feel...Stylistically, the album is quite varied.

Magellan - A Strange Traffic of Dreams. Pop-space rock with echoes of the Beatles, a sprinkle of ballads and lots of rhythm. This beast is hard to categorize but easy to like: Cheerful and bright wrapped in an aura of musical maturity, cohesion and diversity that demands your ear !!! Exciting. (www.magellanmusic.com)

"... I loved it!  Just the perfect kinda tape to have on and hang out on a nice weekend morning, or at least a tape to make you think such: this is the kinda reclusive overly creative half cousin to rock & roll that I really take a shine too.  It has a certain playfulness to it, much like Buckingham's stuff, right down to the fuzzy guitar waa waa waa-ing in the background. Also, they've done a fine job of layering their sounds, more than you'd expect out of a 10 piece band, much less a  3 piece.  Whereas most alterna-schtick seeks to beat you down with angst and scrape out your eardrums with a rusty spoon, the focus here is finesse, and the lyrics seem to venture into that as yet unexplored territory by cookie cutter Bush-types BEYOND how much life sucks, and self deprecation.  It has a quirky little intelligence to it, maybe Einstein meets Jughead.  And as to exactly what their sound is, they do have a big Allan Parsons Project feel to them, I'll admit that, but they really do run the full gamut of styles that is available given their instuments, talents, and the bounds of good taste... "...Magellan travels a byway of the prog rock landscape. Rather poppy, with plenty of little sound sculpture tidbits lying about. The vocals are generally filtered through one machine or another, and whatever guitars appear also sound rather mutated. Kinda in a Floyd-lite state. The lyrics and music are nowhere near as pompous and overbearing, but there is still a resemblance. I guess a comparison to the best of Alan Parsons Project is also in order. Well produced, fairly mellow, but still adventurous, pop fare.  You could do a lot worse...The sound may be inoffensive, but Magellan still traverses some fertile waters. Prog-pop without the cheese."

...A Strange Traffic of Dreams, Magellan's 27th (!!) release opens with a somnolence reminiscent of Pink Floyd -- though much lighter and airy -- and proceeds to remind the listener, at times, of John Lennon at his most whimsical. Among the other sounds on the album are blues, blues-rock, ballads, straight-forward rock-n-roll, and jazz influenced passages. A Strange Traffic of Dreams is a serious work by a mature group of excellent songwriters."

"Magellan has been recording in some form or another for over 20 years. This is their 27th release and runs through a variety of styles including progressive rock and simple guitar pop. It's the more progressive numbers which thankfully provide the meat of the album here. Lush, Beatlesque arrangements with a shimmer of Alan Parsons and plenty of surprises along the way. Highly recommended."
